Third Monday Program as on 21ST April 2013

(The Spirituality-  The celebration of the 150 Th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda)

                                                                The program was organized by Dinesh Bajaj. T P Subramonion  chaired the program  while Swami Prasann Atmananda  from Vedanta Society, Berkeley was Guest Speaker.
                                                                The program started with the prayer presented by Shakuntala Bahadur. T P Subramonion gave his opening remarks wherein he mentioned the contributions made by Swami Vivekananda  for propagating the Hindu philosophy in the world.
Dinesh Bajaj also introduced the Mihir Meghani from 'The Hindu American Foundation' and Jyoti a Community Worker.
                                                               Swami Prasann Atmanandaand started his presentation with one small incident wherein Swami Vivekananda said that' The time will come and Time will go but We are Infinite. He further presented his talk in three basic parts, i.e.1)The position before Swamiji came to the parliament of world religions) The position at the time when he visited.3)After his visit and in present context.The religion was initially connected with the philosophy in the America. In the year 1893(i.e. when Swamiji visited) America was at the threshold of new industrial and scientific era. The spiritual and philosophical and artistic aspects were under change. They more emphasis then on science, logic and reasoning.  The money was becoming master in the American life. The bad and good are prevailing in extreme. The American people were in dilemma  Swamiji came that time. Swamiji was reluctant to come America but his well wishers,  supporters persuaded him and even helped him financially. Swamiji also praised the glory of christanity in the world religion conference.   He talked to world leaders heart to heart and presented the principles of Veda. He gave equal importance to spirituality and Science and showed the world that Hinduism is a way of life which is ready to adjust with the time and situation. He knew that east was in social and economical crisis while west was in social and philosophical crises. He presented the principles of his Guru Ramakrishna Paramhansh rationally and logically.
                                                                  There was a question answer session at end which was received very well. T P Subramonion proposed vote of thanks.
                                                                    Mihir Meghani gave brief report regarding the Hindu American Foundation wherein he informed regarding the official celebration of Diwali Festival at White House. He also mentioned regarding Hindu American Agitation against some of the adverse information published regarding Hinduism in the Text Books prescribed in the schools of California. Jyoti also gave some information regarding Senior Services.
                                               The program ended with prayer.

(GUDI PADAVA/YAGADI Celebrations -NEW YEAR)

                                                                         Prema Santhnam presented prayer at the beginning of the program and M Santhnam conducted 'Omkara' wherein he informed that chanting Omkara is like a investment which is beneficial in long term.
                                                                       Kishor Karnad presented a  story which gave significant messages for the life. Bharat Desai gave talk on 'The influence of Hinduism all over the world'. Prema Santhnam gave a talk on the Tamil New Year and how it is being celebrated in Tamilnadu.  She informed that it is being celebrated by wearing good clothes and going to temple. It is believed that on this day Brahma started creating  world. Amrita Verma informed regarding the gun control measures taken by the Sunnyvale Mayor. Dinesh Bajaj cracked few jokes and informed regarding future programs of 'ICC, Cupertino.  T P Subramonion spoke on the dog and its qualities.DR Sarma chanted few poems in Sanskrit written  by eminent old writer from Tamilnadu. They were all devotional poems regarding Lord Krishna. They were received very well. Sheelaji presented talk on 'Gudi Padava- -New Year' and how it is celebrated. She also presented Marathi song regarding 'Rama returning to Audhaya after Victory.' Vijayalaxmi Bhatt also talked on 'Yagadi'- Kanadi New Year and presented the poem written by Atal Vihari Bajpai.
                                                                      Kalyani Subramonion sang one devotional song in Tamil. Kananlata Srivastav presented story of three monkeys i.e one can not see,other one can not hear and third one can not hear. It was a satire on political, and social system. Thereafter she also presented devotional song. Rajkumari also presented devotional song in Hindi  The song  was regarding significance of 'Omh'. The classical song of Meerabai was presented  in Hindi by Pushpa Mathur. Sita Dorairaj sang one Tamil song along with one  classical song in Hindi. Harindra Vasavada sang one song from old movie which was sang by Hemant Kumar. The program ended with prayer.

Second Monday program as on 8 Th April 2013

(Friends On Same Wave Length-FOSWL)

                                                                              The program started with the poem of Ravindranath Tagore which was presented by Nazneen. T P Subramonion conducted the program as chair and Prof. Dr R.V. S. N. Sarma, Vice President of FOSWL (India ) Chennai, Tamil Nadu, was a Guest Speaker.
                                                                             
                                                                             















                                                               Thereafter M L Swamy , Secretary, FOSWL gave welcome address wherein he gave the brief reports of previous meeting of FOSWL' and activities of other units of 'FOSWL'at Chennai and Mysore. Prof. A Srinivasan gave introduction where in he mentioned that Dr Sarma is also professor at Dr MGR Medical University, Chennai. T P Subramonion gave opening remarks wherein he mentioned the tremendous contributions made by Adi Sankaracharya  in his thirty two years of life. He also made references from Jagat Guru's two Books.i.e.The Govindam, and 'Vivek Chintamani'.

   
                                                                        Prof. Sarma  gave a talk on 'The Glimpses in to the work of Jagat Guru Sri Adi Sankaracharya'.  He briefed in the beginning regarding three  major topics with which Adi Sankaracharya has dealt with.i.e. Dhyana (Inner Development) , Prakriya (philosophy), and Bhaashya(Commentary). He started with Ganesha Prayer. He added further regarding various Stroshtras like Sivastam, Lingastam, Kal Lekhastam, Annapurnastak i.e. which preaches regarding' The identity of Ourselves and the identity of God'. Besides that he added that 'God' is every where and thy is pure. There are many stroshtras like Kanakdhara,Balkrishna, Mahisasurmardini which described the ways and means of realizations.        
                                                                            Besides that Adi Sankaracharya says Worries are  worse than Cremation. The worries  burns one alive while cremation takes place only after death. Jagat Guru has also said that one should worship 'God' with heart and should not wait until something happen as only foolish people will wait for such eventuality. Besides that he also preached that why to care more about  body which is going to be destroyed.  One should always practice equality. What is use of chanting mantras if you do not develop your inner soul? One must digest Geeta  and Puranas instead of simply reading the same.  The  company of good people that too with same wave length is essential in  development of soul. Besides that one has to do charity and to serve needy one. The liberation from illusory  worldly things  is the only way of salvation. Dr Sarma also made some points from the great work of Jagat Guru i.e.The 'Saudarya Laheri, Sivanand  Laheri, Vivekchindamani in which  messages are given to surrender the God and ask forgiveness for whatever sin are committed knowingly or unknowingly.


                                                                       
                                                                           The question answer session was received very well wherein some of the seniors, Adwesh Mathur, Ramchandra, Bharat Desai, and A Srinivasan took active parts.
                                                                           T P Subramonion gave his summing up and Mrs Rangmany Swami proposed vote of thanks.  The program ended with prayer.

First Friday Program as on 04/05/13

(BOOK CLUB MEETING)
                                                                The book club meeting was conducted by Sharada Ramaswami on the Jhumpa Laheri book ' The Namesake'. It is best selling novel which received the  prestigious Pulitzer prize.
                                                                She reviewed the said book which tells the success story of Indian American Immigrant family which immigrated from Calcutta to Cambridge, Massachusetts. It is a story  of struggle and adjustments of Ashok and Ashima and their next generation i.e. Son Gogol and Daughter Sonia.  They had immigrated from traditional Indian family in to the new American culture. They successfully adjusted and merged with  the Main Stream of American Life. It was easy for Ashok to adjust with American Life but was little difficult Ashima. She concluded that book represents the dream of Indian American immigrant and deep rooted  Indian culture.
                                                               Thereafter there was a discussion which was received very well by Seniors. Meera Ramchandran, Ramaswami, Dhanu Siva and Bharat Desai actively participated in the said Discussion. The session continued up to 12 noon and thereafter Yoga was conducted.

                                                           The program was conducted by Dinesh Bajaj and and the main speaker was Kailas Joshi, Former President of TIE, and Director, India Community Center.
                                                           Bharat Desai presented the Thought of the Day wherein he mention that one must have vision to remain happy and healthy.  He Substantiated with the view of Swami Vivekananda  Swami Chinmayanand, Mother Tareca, Warren Buffet, and Thomas Alwa Edition.
                                                          Thereafter S. V. R. Parangusam presented talk on 'world'. He further briefed regarding the election of new Pope. The recent visit of Chines President to  Russia . He also informed that New Bank was formed with 100 billion dollars by the  consortium of  India, China, Russia, South Africa and Brazil.  He also referred the recent visit of Barack Obama to Israel.  He also gave brief report regarding the accident in Gold Mine of Tibet wherein 83 persons died. He added that India  defeated Australia and Pakistan was defeated by South Africa in test series.
                                                     
                                           
         
                                                       Adwesh Mathur presented the' America 'wherein he discussed regarding  'Gay' Marriage and abortion topic in details. He also informed regarding the recent abduction  of 11  year girl wherein police used  Amber law provisions. He also informed regarding the latest provisions of Obama care for sons/ daughter of age of 26 years. He also gave information regarding movies and sports.
                                                        M Santhnam presented 'India' wherein he discussed the supreme  court judgments regarding the five year sentence to Sanjay Dutt, Movie star and recalling of Italian Marines to face the trial at Indian court. He also referred the important decision of highest court of India regarding drugs patent.
                                                       Rani Gutani who runs a 'Mahila Mandal at 'Sarita Vihar, New Delhi also appreciated the program at ICC, Cupertino, CA. She also gave the gist of  their programs which they are running at New Delhi.
                                       
                                                        The guest speaker Kailash Joshi gave talk ' What we can do'.  He was very optimistic regarding the progress of India  He informed that India is the fourth  biggest economy in the world and the largest Democracy. Besides that India is now self sufficient in food and the largest producer of milk in the world. It has done very well in high tech industries including in the production of steel. He further added that  is connected with community based organizations including as a president of 'The foundation of Excellence ('FFE'). 'FFE' is giving loan to deserving and needy students of India for higher study.  They have given 32000 scholarship  wherein 62% are boys and 38% are girls respectively   He also advised seniors to remain active for healthy and happy life.. It is also necessary  to eat right food at right time.
                                                      The question session was also received very well. The program ended with prayer.
