Fourth Friday program as om 28 Th December 2012

The program started with prayer offered by Sita Dorairaj. Bharat Desai was a Chairperson of the program and Dr Akur Srinivasan was  Guest Speaker. He made power point presentation on' The glimpses of the scientific expedition to South polar Region of Antarctica'.
                                                 Bharat Desai gave his opening remark on the subject wherein he mentioned regarding the International treaty of 1959 on Antarctica.  It was signed to protect its environment and to prohibit using the region for military purpose. He also gave details regarding the scientific research centers of various countries and the subjects of research thereon.
                                                 Dr Akur Srinivasan presented his power point presentation on the subject. He started with geographical details regarding Antarctica which covers 5.4 million square miles . He further informed regarding the scientific research stations of various countries with population 5000 in the Region'. He showed slides regarding Ice sheets, Iceberg and Ice peaks.  He also presented few pictures of Animals,Birds, Shark, and whales which resides on the continent of Antarctica   He also presented glimpse of beauty below the Antarctic ocean.
                                                He concluded with the history of antarctic region including  the the various expeditions taken  for  reaching the south poles i.e. Ronald Amundsen reached in 1900 and British Group under the leadership of Scott in the year 1944.
                                                Bharat Desai  congratulated A Srinivasan  for presenting the Antarctica very meticulously  with lots of information.
                                                Thereafter Enuce De Sa gave message of Christmas and New Year along with  Christmas songs.
                                               Young girls Nikki and Malvi played a music on Saxophone which was also received very well.  M L Swamy proposed vote of thanks to all participants. The session ended with the few minutes Yoga Session at the end.

THIRD MONDAY PROGRAM AS ON 17 TH DECEMBER 2012

                            The program was started with observing two minutes silence in the memories of  children who were killed in the recent massacred  at school, Connecticut and  sad demise of one of the seniors Subhash Deshpande at Poona. Dinesh Bajaj also gave emotional speech regarding the tragic death of those small kids. He also introduced the Guest Speaker,  Christ Schmidt of St Thomas Episcopal  Church, trained physicist and Engineer.
                             T P Subramonion gave opening remarks wherein he mentioned that christian religion is the largest religion in the world which is spreaded all over the world.
                              Thereafter Chirst Schmidt presented his talk on 'Christianity' wherein he initially gave  the historical background regarding the rise of christanity and its message. It was a time of Roman rule in Palestine where the Jesus Christ was born in 5 BC. His mother name was Mary. He was born in stable. It is said that mother Mary was virgin and Christ was given birth by God. Jesus Christ was crucified by Roman but he rises after three days.He gave messages to his selected disciples Mosses, Abraham, including his brother James. James propagated his message to Greece Turkey, Russia and other places. while Peter went to Rome for propagating Christanity where he met resistance from Emperor Nero. However in 313 Christanity was accepted as State Religion under the Roman Emperor Constantine.  The first time Bible was published in Latin in the the year 400. In the year 1095 the Pope become the head of Christain religion.
                              Martin Luther a German  brought 'Protestant' Reforms which believed in one God who is a Creator. While Catholic believes  that church is a body of Christ. They accepted the Pope as their Head. They also believed in six commandments and also to attend church on very Sunday   He concluded that christian believes in love thy Nebor and equality. They accept everyone who has a faith in Christanity.
                              T P Subramonion said in his summing up that the ultimately all religions are meant for betterment of man.
                     There was question answer session at the end which was received very well. Thereafter  Christmas songs were sang by Unise De Sa along with other Senior Ladies.

                  The seniors observed two minutes silence on the sad demise of former prime minister Indra Gujaral and Pandit Ravi Shanker.
                Sita Doraiswami offered prayer in the beginning of program. A Narayanaswami presented Omkara and it significance relating of our Health System.
                Shakuntala Bahadur and R B Singh offered tributes  to Indra Gujaral and Pandit Ravishanker wherein they mentioned about their contributions in their fields. Amrita Verma also remembered her remembrances regarding Indra Gujaral.
                 A Narayanaswami  gave talk on 'Brand 'and its historical background. He gave several examples like the name of cisco system came as a short name of Sanfrancisco,  Name h p contain the short names its founder. Apple was favorite fruit of Steve job and he gave name of his new company 'Apple'.
                Bharat Desai gave some of the incidents of Steve job life which are narrated by his close Associates. it reflected his several good qualities.
                M Santhnam gave the life story of  Tamil poet Subramonion Bharati and his contribution towards the freedom struggle of India.
                Andesh Mathur gave talk in Hindi on' How to concentrate during meditation?'
                Mahipal Ghemawat gave talk on 'Health Care of Seniors' wherein he cautioned regarding certain medications. i.e. like Aspirin, Antibiotics etc.
                 S Krishnamurthy gave a talk on Raman Maharshi work and his contribution in the religious philosophy.
                Sudha Shroff presented devotional song while Meera Ramchandran presented one Tamil song of Subramanion Bharati and one devotional song of Meerabai. Kamala Krishnamurthy also presented devotional song.
                The program ended with prayer.

Second Monday program as on 10 Th December 2012

                                    The Guest speaker of the session was T P Subramonion, Former Economic Adviser, Burma Shell, and General Manager - Marketing,  Bharat petroleum corporation, India. While Bharat Desai was the Chairperson of the session.
                                     The prayer was offered by Unise DE SA at the beginning of the program.           Thereafter M L Swamy gave the welcome address wherein he also mentioned the latest activities at the FOSWL-India units. Bharat Desai gave his  opening remarks where in he mentioned that to understand the Liberty vs Legislation (i.e.In context of  gun controversy) one has to understand the concept of Americanism which is based on the principles of freedom, equality, and justice. He added with the facts and figures that Gun Lobby is getting strong day by day.  Prema  Santhnam introduced the Guest Speaker.
                                      T P Subramonion then  presented his talk on " Liberty vs Legislation- The Case of Gun in US". He presented the story of father son wherein he emphasized on the self defense for which gun is very important. He also added that  American constitution under second amendment has given right which has lots of contradictions.  He further added that expansion of frontiers on West, Resistance of  American Indians and Civil War had also encouraged the gun culture. He said gun culture has also support of politicians and  Judiciary. Therefore he concluded that strong public support with  anti gun opinion is required.
                                             Thereafter there was very interesting   question answer session which was received very well and large number of  seniors participated the same. Bharat Desai off erred his closing remark  wherein he mentioned that  the  Gun Culture is increasing the violence and innocent people are being killed by mentally sick people.In view of change circumstances strong public opinion has to be created by the people against Gun. He also praised the the talk as it turn out to be very informative, interesting and analytical.
