The Guest speaker of the session was T P Subramonion, Former Economic Adviser, Burma Shell, and General Manager - Marketing, Bharat petroleum corporation, India. While Bharat Desai was the Chairperson of the session.
The prayer was offered by Unise DE SA at the beginning of the program. Thereafter M L Swamy gave the welcome address wherein he also mentioned the latest activities at the FOSWL-India units. Bharat Desai gave his opening remarks where in he mentioned that to understand the Liberty vs Legislation (i.e.In context of gun controversy) one has to understand the concept of Americanism which is based on the principles of freedom, equality, and justice. He added with the facts and figures that Gun Lobby is getting strong day by day. Prema Santhnam introduced the Guest Speaker.
T P Subramonion then presented his talk on " Liberty vs Legislation- The Case of Gun in US". He presented the story of father son wherein he emphasized on the self defense for which gun is very important. He also added that American constitution under second amendment has given right which has lots of contradictions. He further added that expansion of frontiers on West, Resistance of American Indians and Civil War had also encouraged the gun culture. He said gun culture has also support of politicians and Judiciary. Therefore he concluded that strong public support with anti gun opinion is required.
Thereafter there was very interesting question answer session which was received very well and large number of seniors participated the same. Bharat Desai off erred his closing remark wherein he mentioned that the Gun Culture is increasing the violence and innocent people are being killed by mentally sick people.In view of change circumstances strong public opinion has to be created by the people against Gun. He also praised the the talk as it turn out to be very informative, interesting and analytical.
